Cars!

Tonya Holloway brought us all back to our youth by having us recall our very first car and the circumstances around driving it. As TMoD she chose the theme of "Cars" and led a rousing meeting attended by 16 members and three guests. Craig is our newest member and was warmly welcomed into club # 2032.

President Fred Sadler announced that NPS Toastmasters had already achieved all ten goals for the year ending June 30, 2009 and thus will again be designated a "Presidents Distinguished Club" by Toastmasters International. He reviewed the ten goals required. Congratulations to all NPS Toastmasters present and past.

Smedley Saturday will next be held on Febuary 28 - there was no Smedley in January.

The annual club International Speech and Table Topics contests will be held on February 20 in place of the regular meeting.

I Have a Dream

In his first time as TMoD, Devid Perez skillfully led a meeting inspired by Martin Luther King's dream - very appropriate for the meeting just before the celebration of Dr. King's birthday. We had 18 members and 3 guests.

Sammie Pringle led off with a moving opening remarks (unfortunately truncated here due to problems getting the video camera ready):




Wordmaster Malia Esteban put us all in a "reverie" with the word of the day. Margaret Stevens, Karen Woodson, Emilie Staryak, and Art Testani filled roles of Ah counter, timer, grammarian, and vote counter, respectively.

Cathy Lee was Table Topcis Master, and she called on Tony Valle, Craig (one of the guests) and Pam Walters, with Pam winning best Table Topics speaker:

We were treated to two outstanding speeches. Tonya Holloway gave her #4 speech The Other Side of the Tracks, and was voted both Best Speaker and Most Improved for her moving story about growing up with changing views about race:

Completing the Competent Communicator manual (and not a minute too soon!) Chance Litton gave his #10 speech entitled The Animating Contest for Freedon.

Chance was evaluated by one of our newest "veterans" Glenn Woodson, who was selected Best Evaluator by GE Tito DeJesus:




Finally, since this is likely Chance's last meeting, president Fred Sadler, on behalf of the club, presented Chance with a certificate of appreciation for his leadership and service to the club and to recognize his outstanding speaking ability. Chance and his cat Spock have become part of Club # 2032 legend.
